Universal Healthcare symposium 2018 at KEMU

Uniform accreditation criteria for
Medical Universities will be
implemented-President PM&DC

LAHORE: King Edward Medical University organized Universal Healthcare Symposium 2018 in in collaboration with KEMC ALUMNI recently. Mr. Justice (R) Shakirullah Jan President of PM&DC was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion he stated that uniform accreditation criteria for Universities will be implemented across the board. The main criteria for accreditation consists of four essential faculties i.e. Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Nursing and Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.

Health Minister Punjab Prof Dr. Yasmin Rashid discussed the health facilities provided by the Government of Punjab particularly about mother and child health, Health Insaf Card, Emergency Services at Primary Health Care centers. She commended the services being rendered by the emergency department of King Edward Medical University which is the first Emergency Department in public sector hospital in Punjab.

The Vice Chancellor KEMU Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal highlighted the post graduate training in Pakistan. He pointed out that we believe in “Brain Gain not Brain Drain”. Dr. Ather Saeed (UK) expressed concerns on adverse situation of certain health indicators of Pakistan. Dr. Asim Yousef described the healthcare reforms in KPK and said that similar initiative can be implemented in Punjab, Prof. Asad Aslam Khan highlighted the progress in prevention of blindness programme in Pakistan, Prof. Ghias un Nabi Tayab suggested about the specialist services and developing infrastructures in Punjab.

Prof. Zahid Kamal Siddiqui said that as a part of the Green Pakistan Initiative, we have a target to plant 5000 trees at new campus of KEMU, out of which 1000 have already been planted. Others who also spoke on this occasion included Dr. Tabinda Dugal (UK), Prof. Sarwat Hussain (US), Prof. Fareed Zafar (President SOGP), Dr. Tariq Gauhar (UK), Prof. Mahmood Adil (Scotland). (PR)


KEMU to establish research institute

LAHORE: A Pre- International symposium workshop was organized in Lady Wellington Hospital attached with King Edward Medical University, Lahore recently. The aim of this research workshop was training on different methods of avoidance of complications during delivery. The trainers of the workshop included Prof. Tabinada Rana, Prof. Muhammad Arshad Chohan, Prof. Ayesha Malik and Prof. Uzma Hussain. The Workshop was attended by doctors of all the major hospitals of Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot.

Speaking on this occasion Prof. Muhammad Arshad Chohan said that he was grateful to all the participants. KEMU he further stated was progressing smoothly under the new leadership. He also highlighted the services of Lady Wellington Hospital and mentioned that it is the largest Gynae hospital of the Punjab where free training is imparted. He requested the Vice Chancellor to establish a skills department in the Hospital. Medical Superintendent Dr. Khawaja Mahboob Ahmed remarked that Lady Wallington is providing best services of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Till now during this year 83169 patients were examined at OPD and 35260 were admitted, 14635 of which normal deliveries were carried out and 14629 patients were operated. He also requested to Vice Chancellor for the establishment of a Gynae Tower due to the huge number of patients. Vice Chancellor KEMU Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal said that university will establish a research institute along with Gynae Tower which will incorporate a simulation center, research lab and advance skill lab center for the training of doctors and assured them that their demands will be presented in the syndicate of the University.
