Anti-Covid19 C-IVIG making
good progress at DUHS

KARACHI: Clinical trials of Anti-Covid19 preparation C-IVIG are making good progress at Dow University of Health Sciences. According to a press release issued by the DUHS, almost 100% patients suffering from severe disease have responded well while 60% of critically ill patients which were admitted in the Intensive Care Unit have recovered. Almost 50% of these patients, it is claimed in the press release were discharged within five days.

DUHS is conducting clinical trials for Anti-Covid19 C-IVIG which has shown promising

Pre-clinical trials of C-IVIG started at DUHS in April 2020 and DRAP has given its permission for these studies. The project is being funded by DUHS in collaboration with HEC and is going on under the supervision of VC DUHS Prof. Saeed Qureshi and Dr. Shaukat Ali. According to Dr. Shaukat Ali C-IVIG is prepared from the antibodies extracted from the plasma of COVID19 patients. (PR)

UHS announces Gold medal, Scholarships
in anatomy for medical students

LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS), has announced the launching of a gold medal in the name of Andreas Vesalius, the father of modern anatomy. This gold medal will be awarded each year to the medical student who scores the most in the subject of anatomy. The student will also receive a cash prize of Rupees one hundred thousand. In addition three deserving medical students will be awarded scholarships each year in the name of the father of modern anatomy.

The announcement was made by UHS Vice Chancellor, Professor Javed Akram, at a seminar held at UHS on October 15th to mark World Anatomy Day. The event was organized by the Anatomical Society of Pakistan.

The chief guest of the event, Chairperson Punjab Healthcare Commission, Professor Attiya Mubarak Khalid, emphasized on linking the teaching of the subject of anatomy with the clinical training of medical students. UHS VC Professor Javed Akram said that anatomy was the main subject of medical sciences. The teaching of this subject needed to be adapted to modern requirements. He said that every student entering medical college wanted to become a surgeon or a physician. "No student wants to be an anatomist. They need to know that the subject of anatomy is the basis of surgery and medicine", he added.

President, Anatomical Society of Pakistan, Professor Nosheen Omar said that due to Covid-19, medical students were given online education and this should be kept in mind while assessing them as well. (PR)
