SIUT signs MOU with 
Baskent University

KARACHI: Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Baskent University of Turkey for exploring new avenues of training, teaching and research between the two institutions in the field of medical sciences. The MOU signing ceremony was very well attended by Faculty of SIUT, PG’s and other staff members besides Dr. Faisal A. M. Shaheen, from Saudi Arabia.

President of Baskent University and an international renowned transplant surgeon Prof. Mehmat Haberal and Director SIUT Prof. Adibul Hasan Rizvi signed the MOU on behalf of their respective medical institutions. Prof. Haberal was on a two days visit to Pakistan to perform the ground breaking ceremony of SIUT proposed children and cardiac hospital.

Speaking at the occasion Prof. Mehmat Haberal assured his full support for SIUT and offered his service round the clock. We have to work hard and try to meet the need of the people and our collaboration will be beneficial for both countries, he added. Prof. Adibul Hasan Rizvi in his remarks said that we do not need men, money and material but we need technology for which we are trying our best to involve as many facilities for transfer of technology.

The MOU will open new vistas of cooperation between SIUT and Baskent University for providing training facilities, research and teaching of medical manpower of SIUT which would include doctors, para medics and other support staff of hospital administration. All the teaching, training and research facilities at Baskent University and SIUT will be provided free. It is expected that the MOU signed between SIUT and Baskent University will fill the prevailing gap of limited training facilities for medical manpower in the country.

Baskent University, it may be mentioned here, is a prestigious academic institution of Turkey imparting educational facilities not only in the field of health care but also in some nineteen other academic disciplines. The SIUT on the other hand is prestigious institution of Pakistan providing treatment to population at large in specialized fields free of cost.(PR).


Free Heart Camp at Medicare
Cardiac & General Hospital

KARACHI: Medicare Cardiac & General Hospital  arranged free Heart Camp at its premises on March 7th, 2015.Free screening facilities for ECG, BP, Blood Sugar, Cholesterol & BMI were provided  and Cardiologists, Interventionist, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Medical Specialists, Dietitian & Cardiac Rehabilitation experts examined more than 200 patients.

Coronary artery diseases like angina and heart attack are taking the form of an epidemic in Pakistan, especially in an urban environment like Karachi. Prevention is the only way forward and the importance of a healthy lifestyle & balanced diet can’t be over emphasized. This involves regular exercise for e.g. walking at moderate pace for at least 30 minutes a day and including fresh fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products and reduced salt & sugar in the diet. Health experts shared this information during the free heart camp and patients were advised to take these preventive measures.
