AMC honours Lt. Col. (Retd) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti

RAWALPINDI: A meeting was organized by Army Medical College Rawalpindi at Ayub Auditorium which was hosted by Lt Gen Asif Mumtaz Sukhera, HI (M), Surgeon General, Director General Medical Services (Inter Services) to pay a tribute to Lt Col (Retd) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti, President’s Medal for Pride of Performance, Tamgha-i-Basalat. One of the NUMS Officers, Lt Col (Retd) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti has recently summited Mount Everest, 8,848 meters, the highest mountain of the world. Lt. Gen. Anwar Ali Hyder, HI(M), Adjutant General, Pakistan Army was the Chief Guest and a number  of Seniors Army Officers, Retired Officers and Army Medical College Students were present on this occasion.

During the event, a documentary film was displayed, highlighting the life history, achievements and glimpses of the current expedition of Lt Col (Retd) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti. The speakers highly praised the dedication, determination, courage, perseverance and heroism displayed by Lt Col (Retd) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti to achieve the most precarious and challenging target on the face of merciless weather, treacherous terrain and hostile situations.

Lt Col (Retd) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti is one of the founding members of National University of Medical Sciences and being a health care administrator, he is fourth Pakistani and first out of Gilgit Baltistan to scale the highest mountain of the world.

Maj Gen (Retd) Zia Ullah Khan, HI(M) former Vice Principal Army Medical College was a Special Guest to pay homage to Lt Col (Retd) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti, being his past climbing partner in the high mountains.

In the end Adjutant General and Surgeon General presented mementoes to Lt Col (Retd) Dr. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti. Samuel Johnson an 18th century English poet once said, “Courage is the greatest of all the virtues, because if you do not have courage, you may not have the opportunity to use any of the others.”
