LAHORE: The QA/QEC Directorate of NUMS is dedicated to ensure and enhance quality & bring continuous improvements in its academic programs & university management in a transparent and accountable manner. The ultimate goal is to support the development of quality culture in NUMS Constituent, Affiliated Colleges & its Specialty Institutes says a press release issued by NUMS.

CMH Lahore Medical College is one of the Affiliated Medical College of NUMS. The Principal CMH Lahore Medical and Dental Institute Maj Gen (Retd) Abdul Khaliq Naveed & Quality Department invited NUMS’ Quality Assurance Directorate for a Faculty Development Program for a detailed orientation on establishing the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and the implementation of the policies and programs as prescribed by NUMS, HEC, PM&DC and PNC. With the approval of the Vice Chancellor, Director QA, Ms. Noor Amna Malik, Director Academics, Brig (Retd) Professor Dilshad Ahmed and Assistant Director QA, Dr. Erum Monis visited CMHL on September 10, 2018. The orientation session was attended by faculty members of MBBS, BDS programs, Faculty of Clinical, Basic Medical and Dental Sciences and most importantly the Principal CMH Lahore Medical College full of enthusiasm to learn about quality and how to ensure it in their academic programs demonstrating their resolve and commitment to quality. After a brief introduction of the NUMS directors by Brig. Prof. Dr. Rehan-uddin, the lead was taken up by Director Quality Assurance NUMS. She started her presentation with the message from the Vice Chancellor. Afterwards, she explained Internal and External Quality standards, parameters and processes in detail. She also emphasized on the basic requirements for establishing a Local Quality Enhancement Cell (L-QEC) in the College to ensure that quality parameters are being implemented. Later on, the standards of Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE) were explained in detail and why are they mandatory to follow for established universities.

In the second session, Director Academics NUMS briefed the audience in detail as how to conduct ‘Self-Assessment’ of academic programs as per HEC rules and regulations. He also guided the participants on how to start a new post graduate program. The Principal CMH Lahore and the faculty showed keen interest and asked many relevant questions. Remaining session was dedicated to elaborating on ranking procedures both national and international. The significance of developing ‘a documented system and not a system of documentation’ was highlighted.(PR)
