HYDERABAD: Health Research Advisory Board (Health RAB) organized a workshop on “How to Write, Prepare and Present Poster which has an Impact” for the postgraduates of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences on October 31, 2017 at its campus. Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid Chief Editor Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences who is also Secretary of EMAME was the facilitator. The workshop was attended by fifty postgraduates including a few faculty members. Dr. Imran sheikh was the local host and organizer.

During this interactive workshop, Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid discussed in detail the essential requirements of writing, designing and presenting a poster. He also discussed in detail certain do’s and Dont’s. It was pointed out that the title should be short and on target, proper selection of the type faces, use of colours, quality of the information included in the poster, importance of the study subject, Visual impact of the poster, what information should be included in structured abstract and how much space should be utilized for accommodating various sections of the poster i.e. Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Tables and Illustrations were all discussed in detail. While presenting a poster, make sure that you keep an eye contact with the audience, importance of the study subject, quality of the slides, is the message conveyed clearly, effectively, presentation, time management and how much interest the presenter can generate among the audience are all important.  It was also suggested that the poster presenter should stay near the Poster and be prepared to answer any question from the viewers in the Posters Gallery, have some handouts ready to share with those who are interested to have more information. Oral presentation is more important than poster which is also difficult and time consuming to prepare and expensive as well. Oral presentation is always rater high as compared to poster.

At the end of the workshop, the participants were also provided some Hand Outs on how to write, design a Poster which included some very useful information.

Earlier Dr. Imran Sheikh welcomed the workshop participants and also thanked the Facilitator for conducting the workshop. Mr. Shakil from PharmEvo who had taken initiative for this workshop with special reference to the forthcoming Conference of Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology where they are organizing a Poster Competition was also present. He also gave details of the Prize money for the First, Second and Third best posters which will be decided by a Jury at the PSG Conference.
