UHS launches Pakistan’s First Digital CME
programe for capacity building
of Healthcare professionals

LAHORE: University of Health Sciences Lahore created history by becoming the first medical institution in Pakistan to launch Digital Continuing Medical Education programme. It was formally launched on October 30th 2015 at the inaugural session of the International Medical Education Conference which was attended by a large number of international experts in the field of medical education besides medical educationists from all over Pakistan. This is a unique initiative by the UHS in collaboration with PharmEvo Pharmaceuticals. The idea was conceived by Prof. Junaid Sarfraz Pro Vice Chancellor of UHS and then finalized during a meeting with Dr. Masood Jawaid who is the Programme Director of this course.

While making a presentation on Digital CME Dr. Masood Jawaid highlighted its salient features and also demonstrated how it will work which earned lot of appreciation from the jam-packed auditorium. Everyone was very keen to find out further details about the progamme and participate in it. At present the necessary formalities are being finalized and later pass words will be issued to those interested. For PharmEvo the national pharmaceutical company known for its ethical  and innovative marketing practices, it is yet another feather in its cap and addition to a number of initiatives all directed at capacity building of healthcare professionals with the ultimate aim of improving healthcare and patient safety. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UHS and PharmEvo to develop this Digital CME at Karachi on May 25th 2015. It was signed by Prof. Major Gen. Mohammad Aslam Vice Chancellor of UHS and Dr. Jamshed Ahmad Chief Operating Officer of PharmEvo.

It may be mentioned here that many medical institutions have been trying to start such a programme but could not succeed due to lack of perfect coordination between the subject specialists and the Information Technology people. Since Dr. Masood Jawaid is a trained medial educationist having done MHPE from DUHS, is a general surgeon by training with expertise in Information Technology, this Three in One   quality worked wonders and he was able to design and launch this programe.
