KARACHI: All efforts should be made to ensure proper disposal of of hospital waste to control Hepatitis and other Communicable Diseases. All hospitals should have vigilance committees to check the proper disposal of hospital waste so that it cannot be reused. This was stated by Dr. Shagufta Shafi Associate Professor of Medicine at Hamdard Medical University Hospital Karachi. She was performing the Otsuka Lucky draw held at Otsuka Head Office on October 26th, 2017. Mr. Hanif Sattar Chief Executive Officer of Otsuka Pakistan, Mr. Khalid Munir, Sales Head, Dr. Uzma Mustafa, Dr. Arooj Aslam and some members of sales team from were also present on this occasion.

Dr. Shagufta Shafi further stated that awareness and educational programmes for paramedics and nurses are very important because these people are the back bone of every health care facility. If they are properly trained to follow standard operating procedures lot of complications could be avoided. Group discussion and small group meeting in various healthcare facilities should be arranged for CME activities to emphasize on preventive measures. She was of the view that the standard of nursing care has deteriorated because they are not trained properly and were not aware of basic sterilization. If someone pinpoints a problem, he or she may be threatened by people with vested interests. She appreciated the quality of Otsuka products and efforts of Otsuka Pakistan to create awareness regarding Hepatitis and other deadly diseases.

Mr. Hanif Sattar Chief Executive Officer of Otsuka Pakistan informed that Government has increased regulatory duties on Medical Food Items which has increased the cost of some essential drugs. He urged the Government to look into it so that poor people are not deprived of essential lifesaving drugs. Dr. Umer Motlani from Hyderabad was the lucky winner of a bumper prize for the Month of October 2017 draw. Other fifteen winners will get consolation prizes.
