KARACHI: Role of education in fluid therapy is very important because it vary in different situations. Young budding surgeons besides paramedical staff should be trained as they are back bone of our healthcare delivery system but we do not give them proper training and importance which this profession deserves. This was stated by Dr. Tanveer Ahmed, Associate Professor and Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi. He was performing the Otsuka Lucky draw in connection with their on-going campaign against Hepatitis spread, at a meeting held at Otsuka Head office on April 26 2018.

campaign against Hepatitis spread, held at Otsuka Head office on April 26, 2018.

Continuing Dr. Tanveer, said that training of healthcare professionals including Family Physicians, nurses and paramedics in particular needs to be further strengthened and even sweepers should be involved in awareness campaigns. In Pakistan pricking of IV bottles is one of the major causative factors for the spread of Hepatitis. Needle stick injury is also a major issue which can be controlled by simple preventive measures. We do not have any Reporting Centre for NSI's. We must have a Registry so that people can report if they suffer from such injuries which will help to collect data and use it to create awareness and preventive measures. He was of the view that it is the duty of the senior healthcare professionals to contribute in this regard and share their knowledge and experience with others so that the younger generation of doctors, nurses and paramedics are better prepared to effectively manage the patients which will go a long way in improving patient care. Awareness can only be effective if we do something for improvement of knowledge of these people, he added.

Dr. Nadeem further stated that we do not realize the consequences of pricking, we have to be careful because there are always chances of contamination. Lot of things are imposed on us but we need to emphasize the importance of quality products and do no harm to the patients should be our priority as it is part of our Oath. He appreciated the Hepatitis awareness campaign initiated by Otsuka Pakistan which will play a vital role to educate the people as well as healthcare professionals to control these diseases.

Earlier Mr. Arshad Khan, Marketing Manager of Otsuka Pakistan highlighted the activities of Otsuka Pakistan to create awareness about Hepatitis and needle stick injuries.
