Biggest ever Development Budget

Education gets 345 Billion, Health 263 Billion

Sindh Budget has 202.2 Billion for Education and 100.3 Billion for Health

LAHORE: Government of Punjab has announced the biggest ever Development Budget by any province in Pakistan’s history which stands at Rs.  635 Billion. The budget shows an impressive increase for Education and Health sectors as compared to the previous years. The total allocations for Education are   345 Billion and for Health 263 Billion. Other salient features of the budget include Special allocation for less developed districts Five Billion, Free Rural Ambulance Service for pregnant women, 58 Billion for Water and Sanitation and increase in girl student’s stipend from Rs. 200/- per month to Rs. 1,000/- per month in sixteen low literacy districts which will benefit 462,000 students. Since now Health is a provincial subject, the provincial Health budgets have assumed greater importance.

Punjab government, it may be mentioned here has already announced setting up three new medical universities  in the province upgrading the  Rawalpindi Medical College, Nishter Medical College and Punjab Medical College. A number of new medical colleges are also planned in certain districts while the already established medical institutions are also being further strengthened. Numerous development projects in different areas in health sector are on the cards and during the election year, pace of development in the province will accelerate further. Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has already stunned every one including his worst enemies in the opposition with his fast pace of development works. The start of projects like Metro Bus first started in Lahore and later extended to Rawalpindi-Islamabad and Multan is already benefitting millions of people who have been provided comfortable mode of transport.  Sehat Card for the poor being provided under the Prime Minister’s healthcare programme has also benefitted millions of poor patients who can now get specialized care at any public or private tertiary healthcare facility. The Chaudhry’s of Gujrat who claimed to elect the Military Dictator General Pervez Musharraf as President in uniform for ten times, Imran Khan, PPP leadership and others first ridiculed Metro Bus project as “Jungla Bus” and also claimed that network of roads were being built to earn commission but    now having realized that public has benefitted and it has earned lot of good will to the Sharif’s, they too have been forced   to follow the projects of Sharif’s. KPK Government is also now planning for a Metro Bus in Peshawar and has already introduced Sehat Cards. Sindh Government is also thinking to start Metro Bus project and building of roads network. However, Mian Shahbaz Sharif has emerged as the most active, hardworking Chief Ministers in the country who gets the projects completed in time and no one else can match his speed which is now even acclaimed in the international circles as Shahbaz Speed and Punjab Speed. 

Sindh Budget

The provincial Sindh Budget has also increased allocations for Education and Health which now stands at 202.2 Billion and 100.3 Billion respectively. During the year fifteen new medical institutions are being regularized which includes fourteen midwifery institutions and Khairpur Medical University. There has been 26% increase in total allocations for the health sector. The budget for NICVD which is doing a commendable job under the new administration has been enhanced from 1.8 Billion to 5.8 Billion. This includes four Billion for NICVD Karachi and   694.5 Million for Faryal Talpur Cardiac Surgery Complex Larkana and 694.5 Million for Benazir Bhutto Cardiac Hospital at Tando Mohammad Khan besides 380 Million for poor patients. Grants for SIUT and Indus Hospital has also been increased to five billion and one billion respectively. Budget has 2.8 Billion for teaching hospitals, and four Billion for preventive programmes. An amount of 1.8 Billion has been kept for Sindh Immunization Support Programme, Rs. 900 Million for Hepatitis Control Programme, Rs. 500 Million for Sardar Glulam Mohammad Maher Medical College Sukkur, Rs. 359 Million for Benazir Institute of Urology and Transplantation, 332.5 Million for up gradation of Taulka Hospitals , Rs. 325.5 Million for provision of surgical instruments, equipment for JPMC at Karachi. The health sector’s share in total outlay is 8, 5%.

Khyber PK Budget

Rapid Transport and Education figure prominently in the Khyber PK Budget of 603 Billion Rupees.  Total allocations for Education are 27.6 Billion and for Health 26.9 Billion rupees. Higher Education budget has been increased by 31%, Secondary education by 17% and Health by 20%.
