SOPs should be available in Wards, ICU on how
to prepare & use IV infusions-Prof. Salman Waris

Awareness campaign against waterborne
diseases should also be initiated

MULTAN: Prof. Salman Waris Head of the Dept. of Anesthesia at Nishtar Hospital Multan has suggested that proper Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) should be available in the wards as well as Intensive Care Units in the shape of wall hangings which should provide information on how to use infusion drips, IV preparations and avoid Needle Stick Injuries (NSIs). He was performing the monthly Lucky Draw here on May 29th 2018 as a part of Otsuka’s ongoing campaign against Hepatitis spread in the print and electronic media.

Otsuka Lucky Draw held at Nishtar Hospital Multan on 29th May, 2018.

He further suggested that this awareness campaign should be spread to peripheral towns as well and it should also include campaign and awareness against water borne diseases which results due to contamination of drinking water with sewerage water. He strongly discouraged the use of needles in any procedure and if it becomes essential to use needles, it must be ensured that these needles are discarded soon after use so that they are not reused after repacking. Nurses, Prof. Salman Waris stated, play an important role in healthcare delivery and they must know the complete process of Intravenous Set, how to place them in the IV infusion bottle to avoid any complications. Otsuka, he said, should provide needle cutters in Wards to discard needles after use so that they cannot be reused.

He commended and appreciated the awareness campaign initiated by Otsuka to protect healthcare professionals against needle stick injuries and dangers of pricking IV infusion bottles. Dr. Ahmad Shahab Khan form Nishter Hospital, Multan was the Lucky Winner for the month of May 2018 draw. (PR)
