QUETTA: PharmEvo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pakistan Orthopaedic Association to organize workshops on Medical Writing for its members all over the country. The fifth such workshop inthis series was organized at Bolan Medical College, Quetta on May 13th 2016. Workshop faculty included Dr. Asadullah Makhdoom from Journal of Pakistan Orthopaedic Association and Dr. Masood Jawaid from Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences. Dr. Asadullah Khan Kakar was the coordinator of the workshop from Bolan Medical College. The workshop was organized by JPOA in collaboration with Pakistan Association of Medical Editors (PAME). It was sponsored by PharmEvo.

Speaking at the occasion Prof. Masood Qazi Head of the Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery at Bolan Medical College said that quality research and learning skills were important for scientific writing in today’s era of Evidence Based Medicine.Prof. Naila, Head of the Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Bolan Medical College opined that such workshops, will go a long way in promoting the research culture as it provides an opportunity to the junior and senior faculty members to learn.

Dr. Asadullah Makhdoom introduced Journal of Pakistan Orthopaedic Association and stated that the first issue was started in 1967.This Journalis now recognized by PMDC and last year it was also approved by HEC in Z category. JPOA has started online submission on its new website. He further said that these Scientific Paper Writing Workshops are specially arranged to improve the writing skills of orthopedic faculty and residents so that submission of JPOA and other journals should be increased with good quality of research papers. JPOA has no publication charges from members of POA while there is nominal fee from non-members as Journal is fully supported by POA.

Workshop contents included steps in planning and conducting research and technical aspects of paper writing according to ICMJE guidelines. The sessions were highly interactive and all participants felt it was quite informative and interesting. They appreciated efforts of the organizers.
