development plans of NUMS future Campus

RAWALPINDI: Consultant to Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Mehmood Hassan Butt, visited National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) to discuss the future plans of NUMS’ on Tuesday, July 4th, 2017.

Speaking at the occasion Dr. Mehmood H. Butt commended the university’s endeavors to realize HEC’s Higher Education Vision 2025, which surrounds six principles of technological advancement, higher learning institutions, quality assurance, critical and innovative thinking, linkages and leadership skills. He also suggested that NUMS should go for smart classrooms in its new campus by embedding telemedicine system and other state of the art technological innovations.

Vice Chancellor NUMS, Lt. Gen. Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed, in his speech  appreciated the wisdom, patronage, guidance and support of HEC to fulfill NUMS’ dream to make NUMS’ medical city with on campus schools, sports facilities, mosque, pathology labs, blood bank, tissue bank, genetics, TB, and clinical trials. Emphasis was laid on the need for original and innovative research in the field of medicine in the country and the participants were assured that NUMS will play its role in setting benchmarks in research methodology for all other universities to follow; building of three research centers and a pharmaceutical center was also brought under discussion.

Earlier the need to establish NUMS’ own infrastructure in Islamabad in order to fulfil Higher Education Vision 2025 requirements was highlighted by the Pro Vice Chancellor NUMS, Maj Gen (Retd) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam in his welcome address. This was followed by a presentation on “NUMS Islamabad Campus Plan” by Director Projects & Planning, Brig (R) Nasir Zaidi. The presentations were followed by discussion between NUMS and HEC officials. Participants’ attention was also drawn towards the Tertiary Education Tiers with quality assured universities and certified support staff, curriculum in accordance with World Federation of Medical Education and EU under capacity building programmes.
