Organizers finalize an interesting informative scientific programme for the conference

Salient features include session on Mother & Child Health, Important
issues in Family Medicine, Seminar on Cardio-metabolic
diseases and symposium on Diabetes

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians is organizing its Midyear conference here on July 17th which is expected to attract a large number family physicians, General Practitioners from Rawalpindi-Islamabad and its adjoining areas while a large contingent of Family Physicians from Lahore will travel to participate in the conference. The meeting being held on Sunday July 17th2016 is being organizing in collaboration with  Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad, Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, Pakistan Aspirin Foundation, Cardio metabolic Society of Pakistan besides American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Pakistan Chapter.

Dr. Aftab Iqbal Sheikh a noted Family Physician is the Chairman of Organizing Committee while Dr., M. Nadeem Khawaja is the Organizing Secretary.  Other members of the organizing committee include Dr. Altaf Cheema, Dr. Manzoor Rana and Prof. Javed Akram, Vice chancellor of SZABMU/PIMS Islamabad.

The organizers have finalized an interesting scientific programme. Dr. Altaf Cheema is the Chairman of the Scientific Committee. The first session of the conference has been devoted to Mother and Child Health. The speakers in the session and their topics include Infertility Workup by Family Physicians by Prof. Saqib Siddique, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by Prof. Rizwana Chaudhry, Diabetes and Pregnancy by Prof. Ghazala Mahmood and Worm Infestations by Dr. Jay Kirshan. Burning issues in Family Medicine will be discussed in the second session. Dr. Aftab Akhtar form Shifa Hospital will talk about Updates in treatment of Bronchial Asthma while Dr. Raja Farhat also from Shifa will speak on Management of Migraine. Latest trends in the management of Hepatitis-C will be discussed by Prof. M. Umar, Principal of Rawalpindi Medical College, and Rawalpindi.

Third session has been devoted to Cardio metabolic Diseases. Dr. Shahbaz Ahmad Qureshi will speak on Advancements in the treatment of Hypertension while Dr. Fawad Farooq will discuss Medical Uses of Aspirin with special reference to primary prevention. Prof. Ali Java from PIMS will discuss Management of Hypothyroidism while Prof. Javed Akram will be speaking on Dyslipidemias. The speakers in the symposium on Diabetes include Dr. Osama Ishtiaq from Shifa who will speak on an overview of oral anti diabetic preparations while Prof. Jamal Zafar will discuss early Insulinization and advances in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus.  This will be followed by a Workshop on Diabetes. The topics which will be discussed in four different groups include Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, Diabetic Nephropathy, Macro vascular complications of diabetes and How to Initiate, Titrate and Maintain Insulin Therapy.
