DHAKA (BANGLADESH): Association for the Improvement of Mental Health Programmes (AMH) in collaboration with Association for Study of Mental Health in Bangladesh organized a Training Programme on “Co-Morbid Diabetes and Depression” was organised in Dhaka from 27-29 June 2014.

The Bangladesh Psychiatric Association (BPA) and the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations (AFPA) co-sponsored this programme and collaborated in its organization. The course attracted some 80 professionals including psychiatrists, diabetologists and family physicians. The course was one of the series of such programmes focused on the recognition and management of comorbidity of mental and physical disorders that are being organised by AMH and Prof Norman Sartorius in different parts of the world. The faculty for the course included Prof Norman Sartorius, Prof Linda Gask, Prof S Chaturvedi, Prof Golam Rabbani, Prof Zofar Latif and Dr Afzal Javed.

The course included lectures, role play, discussions and group work facilitating the acquisition of skills useful in recognising and treating comorbid conditions. The participants found the training a valuable addition to their professional knowledge and hoped that this will help them in treating their patients in a better way.
