First Batch of 29 Doctors complete Certificate
Course in Medical Editing by UHS Lahore
Submission of Portfolio required by January 31st while 
final assessment and result expected in March 2020

LAHORE: The First Batch of twenty nine doctors selected from all over Pakistan have completed the Certificate Course in Medical Editing which is a joint project of University of Health Sciences and Pakistan Association of Medical Editors. (PAME). Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid Chief Editor Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences and Secretary of Eastern Mediterranean Association of Medical Editors (EMAME) is the course coordinator.

Apart from Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid, other facilitators during the course which had two contact sessions of four days each included eminent editors of various journals i.e. Dr. Fatema Jawad Editor-in-Chief of JPMA, Prof. Jamshed Akhtar Editor of Journal of College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan and current President PAME, Prof. Akhtar Sherin Chief Editor Khyber Medical University Journal, Prof. Saira Afzal Editor Annals of KEMU and Dr. Masood Jawaid Associate Editor of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences. All the candidates were affiliated with a Mentor/Facilitator who are all distinguished researchers and editors of various biomedical journals or have remained associated with some journals in the past.

The candidates are required to complete five assignments and they have been advised to submit soft copy as well as a printed copy of the assignment portfolio to Mr. Mohammad Atif Director Administration at University of Health Sciences who is also the UHS focal person for the course with CC to Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid at the latest by January 31st 2020.. The final assessment and result is expected to be organized during March 2020. The candidates had continuous assessment throughout the course and they also had to appear in four tests as well two during each contact session. It may be mentioned here that this is first such course organized in Pakistan and it is hoped it will help improve the quality and standard of biomedical journals in Pakistan once such trained human resource becomes available.
