Continuing Dr. Nadeem said that everybody is potentially at risk of developing sepsis from minor infections, such as flu or wounds or injuries as a result of an accident Those who are on mechanical ventilation with drips or catheters are genetically prone to infection. Sepsis is a particular risk for people already in hospital due to another serious illness. Hospital-acquired bacterial infections are more serious as the bacteria causing the infection have often developed a resistance to antibiotics. Pricking of IV infusion bottles, use of unsterilized equipment by Dentists, in operation theaters, unnecessary use of injections and dialysis procedure without screening of the patients are major cause of infections which results in spread of Hepatitis and other infections.
