LAHORE: In order to enhance the quality of cancer surgery care in this country, Surgical Oncology Society, Pakistan organized the 7th International Cancer Surgery Conference here recently. It was very well attended by cancer surgeons from all over the Pakistan, including District and Tehsil Head Quarter surgeons,

Cancer Workshop started at Khawaja Safdar Medical College, Sialkot on 1st February under the supervision of Prof. Zafar Ali Chaudhary in which Art Laparoscopic and open cancer operations were shown in auditorium to participants of workshop. On 2nd day live cancer workshop was held at Service Institute of Medical Science, Lahore under the supervision of Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz. On 3rd Day Laparoscopic Gastrectomy for stomach cancer was done successfully by Prof. Muhammad Arsahd Cheema and Prof. Khursheed Akhtar at West Operation Theater of Mayo Hospital, Lahore and it was shown live to the participants of workshop.  

The Conference started on World Cancer Day at King Edward Medical University, Lahore where cancer awareness walk and seminar was organized by Surgical Oncology Society, Pakistan in which a large number of individuals belong into civil society, media and every walk of life participated. Afterwards the expert cancer surgeons from UK, USA, Spain, Germany, Sweden, France, Korea, India, Bangladesh and Middle East delivered lectures through Global Video link to the participants of the Conference.

The highlight of the Conference was “Great Cancer Debate in which the speedy spread of Cancer, its prevention, early diagnosis, cure and the available facilities in health care system including future strategy to coup the cancer in Pakistan were discussed. (PR)
