Diabetes Education has only recently been acknowledged as a key component of diabetes management, although diabetes education predates the discovery of insulin in 1921. To acknowledge the existing gap between health care professionals and patients with diabetes National Association of Diabetes Educators of Pakistan (NADEP) was established in May 2010.

NADEP is an association of diabetes educators, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, other allied health care professionals and those who have interest in diabetes care. The objective of NADEP is to promote standardization, development and delivery of structured diabetes educational programs, to set up national and international collaborations for diabetes educational activities in Pakistan and to organize meeting, workshops and conferences in diabetes education and related disciplines.
