Inter-University Boards being established to ensure uniformity in curriculum and assessment of postgraduates

LAHORE: University of Health Sciences Lahore recently organized a Convention of Master of Surgery, Doctor of Medicine and Masters in Dental Surgery to discuss the reforms needed in these programmes. It was attended by Vice Chancellors of Public Sector Medical Universities from Punjab as well as Sindh province besides Principals of medical colleges and postgraduate students. This Reforms Committee was constituted by Vice Chancellor of UHS.

Prof. Masud Ahmed Cheema MBBS, FRCS

Professor Emeritus, retired Lt. Colonel, Dr. Masud Ahmed Cheema died on January 17, 2019 in Lahore at the age of 81 years. He was one of the pioneers of Cardiac Surgery in Pakistan. He made phenomenal contributions in developing new institutions, motivating and training surgeons and developing indigenous surgical techniques.

PSIM aims at promoting research and excellence in clinical practice

The first General Body meeting was held at the University of Health Sciences Lahore on January 16th, 2019 which unanimously elected Prof. Javed Akram Vice Chancellor of UHS as its first President.

Punjab Healthcare Commission determines charges for private hospitals

LAHORE: Despite having the mandate to enforce a standardized pricing structure for hospitals, the Punjab Healthcare Commission refrained from taking any action all these years. However, after the directives of the Supreme Court, the Commission invited 16 tertiary hospitals to join in the effort of working out price structure for the consultants and Commonly Undertaken Procedures (CUP). The preliminary report on costing and fees of private hospitals was submitted to the SC on December 15, 2018.

LAHORE: Inaugurating the SAAP-VI and 16th annual conference of Pakistan Society of Physiology hosted by University of Lahore, Prof. Mohammad Nizamuddin Chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission has advised the SAARC countries to promote academic friendship to excel and compete with international standards. “Enhancing Academic and Research Collaboration in South Asia” was the theme of the conference which attracted a large number of teachers in physiology from all over the country besides numerous delegates from overseas.
