BIDE for Diabetes

KARACHI: Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology (BIDE) in collaboration with National Association of Diabetes Educators of Pakistan (NADEP) arranged awareness walk at BMU Campus. The objective of the walk was to provide awareness among the masses that how to protect from diabetes and save future. The walk was led by V.C. Prof. Zahida Baqai. The faculty members of Baqai Medical University, deans, students and distinguished guests from (NADEP) participated in the event.

The Chancellor Dr. Fareeduddin Baqai in his message said, that diabetes is the mother diseases and it should be stabilized in time to prevent from complications and to live a healthy and active life. V.C. Prof. Zahida Baqai welcomed the participants and highlighted the aims and objectives of the event. She said that diabetes related problems poses most serious health challenges to the people at large across the globe. She further said that the rise of diabetes is one of the most serious health challenge. This shows that it is getting worse every year.

Prof. Abdul Basit Director BIDE said that purpose to organize this walk was to inform public about the damages of diabetes. He further stated that 70 lac people are already suffering from diabetes and almost similar number are likely to get this disease. Unhealthy diet plays a vital role in increasing glucose level in the blood. High blood sugar level may lead to many other diseases as well. Prof of Medicine and M.S Fatima Hospital Prof. Dr. Jameel Ahmed said that teaching hospital of BMU will start diabetic foot clinical, consultation, treatment and surgery from the next month of this year.
