LAHORE: International Conference on Simulations, Simulated and Standardized Patients in Health Professional Education held here at University of Health Sciences from November 20-22nd attracted a large number of medial educationists from all over the country besides renowned guest speakers from UK, Germany, Sir Lanka and Saudi Arabia. Speakers highlighted the usefulness of this new technology which has a role and place in medical education, teaching and training, its limitations and disadvantages besides emphasizing that it cannot replace the real patients.
Ethics Committees urged to help improve study proposals rather than creating hurdles for researchers
QUETTA: National Bioethics Committee (NBC) held its first ever meeting in the provincial capital of Baluchistan Quetta on November 13th2014 which was followed by two days training workshop for the members of the newly constituted Provincial Bioethics Committee on November 14-15th 2014.
LAHORE: University of Health Sciences Lahore (UHS) has taken the initiative to establish the Council for Collaboration in Medical Education (CCME) with the objective of providing a meaningful, practical forum for medical education, coordinating activities and steering them in the right direction through a concerted efforts. Prof. Junaid Sarfraz Khan, Professor of Medical Education and Pro Vice Chancellor of University of Health Sciences who took this initiative has been elected as the President for a term of one year while Dr. Musarrat ul Husnain from Punjab Medical College has been elected as President-elect and Dr.Munir Azhar as its Secretary.

KARACHI: Education is the cheapest and most effective treatment of diabetes. Increasing contact with fast food which are weapon of mass destruction should be discouraged. The major cause of diabetes is central obesity and we should fight it to prevent diabetes. This was stated by Dr. A. Samad Shera Secretary General of Diabetic Association of Pakistan.

The theme of the conference was “Translating Research Evidence into Dental Practice”.
KARACHI: Hepatitis is increasing very rapidly in our country and quite a few patients examined at our Department is Hepatitis C carrier and majority of the patients are from rural areas. Reuse of disposable syringes and pricking of I.V infusion bottles are major causes of Hepatitis spread. This was stated by Dr. Lubna Ali, Associate Professor of Gynecology at Civil Hospital, Karachi.

The MOU commits the two institutions to establish comprehensive library service throughout Pakistan, arranging technical advice & assistance to library authorities, promote research in library science & improve the professional standing of library workers.
KARACHI: Pharmacy education was started in the University of Karachi in 1964, thanks to the effort of late Dr. Nasim Allawala who convinced Dr. I.H Qureshi the Vice – Chancellor of Karachi University, to start Pharmacy classes and the University of Karachi announced its establishment in August 1964.
