MULTAN: There is a need to create awareness about Needle Stick Injuries among healthcare professionals. Majority of them specially those involved in surgical procedures and Operation theaters are infected due to NSIs because they are not properly trained to handle the instruments in addition to their careless attitude. Medical Professionals must follow standard operating protocol which will help them to protect themselves from getting infected which is a major problem being faced by healthcare providers. This was stated by Dr. Fauzia Waqar, Head Department of Pediatrics Nishtar Hospital Multan while performing the Otsuka lucky draw in connection with Otsuka awareness campaign against Hepatitis held here on 19th July 2018.

Prof. Fauzia Waqar appreciated Otsuka Pakistan’s role in providing a number of IV solutions which are of great help in Pediatrics. Otsuka Pakistan has also played their role in spreading understanding about Fluid and Electrolytes among young doctors. Basics of Fluid & Electrolytes book published by Otsuka Pakistan, she stated is indeed a good tool for house officers in a pediatric unit. She also suggested few combinations to manufacture Electrolytes solutions which they have to make during Pediatric practices.

Mr. Muhammad Arshad Khan, Marketing Manager Otsuka Pakistan highlighted the aims and objectives of this campaign “Do not prick an IV bottle, It can spread Hepatitis." Medical professionals he stated have recognized this problem and responded in a tremendous manner and now majority of doctors and nursing staff do not prick IV solutions bottles unless there is a need of it. Otsuka Pakistan has also provided premixed Potassium solutions in order to save patients from potassium mixing hazards. Otsuka Pakistan offered Needle stick Injuries related periodic workshops in different wards to improve understanding about safe medical practices and is also providing Prick-Free bottles to facilitate medical professionals. Dr. Zeeshan from Sh. Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan was the lucky winner of a bumper prize for the month of July, 2018 lucky draw.
