Deteriorating law and order situation in Egypt poses a potential
threat for postponement of the conference at the last minute

CAIRO (EGYPT): The organizing committee for the forthcoming EMMJ6 Medical Journals Conference being held at Cairo is giving final touches to the programme. The conference is scheduled to be held from September 2-4th 2013 while pre-conference workshops are planned on September 1st 2013 says a latest communication received from Jane Nicholson WHO- EMAME Liaison Coordinator Knowledge, Languages and Publishing in the WHO EMR Office. Speakers have now all confirmed and review of abstracts by the Scientific Committee is now being scheduled. Bridging the gap: Challenges and Opportunities in Publishing Health Science Journals in the Region is the theme of the conference.
However, deteriorating law and order situation in Egypt poses a potential threat for postponement of the conference at the last minute.
Some of the invited guest speakers include Ala Alwan, WHO Regional Director, Maged Sherbini, President Egyptian Academy of Science and Technology, Maqbool Jafary President EMAME, Farrokh Habibzadeh President WAME, Hoomen Momen from WHO Bulletin, Pippa Smart PSP Consulting, Elise Lanngdon Neuner Editor Emeritus The Write Stuff, Michael Willis from International Society of Managing and Technical Editors and Dr.Behrooz Astaneh COPE Council Member and a few others.
Pre-conference workshop on Peer Review will be facilitated by Farrokh Habibzadeh; Facilitators for workshop on Editorial Office Management are Michael Willis, Rabab Rashwan and Dr. Masood Jawaid from Pakistan. Pippa Smart will conduct the workshop on Planning a long term vision and strategy for journals while Behrooz Astaneh will be facilitating the workshop on Publishing Ethics.
WHO is offering partial accommodation support to selected delegates from different countries. Apart from presentations by the invited guest speakers and delegates in different sessions, the programme also includes Panel Discussion on The Modern Journal Business Model, and Fostering Collaborating between editors of different journals and countries. An executive committee meeting of EMAME and EMAME General Assembly will also take place during the conference. New EMAME Executive will also be elected through electronic voting. Those who are present in the conference and have not yet cast their vote will be allowed to do so on the first day of the conference. A three member election committee consisting of Dr. Maqbool H.Jafary President-EMAME, Prof. Farhad Handjani President-elect EMAME, and Jane Nicholson from WHO EMRO has been constituted. Announcement regarding EMAME Elections 2013 has been sent on EMAME List Serve for circulation and the members have been advised to send nominations for various posts till August 1st 2013. The nominations have been invited for President-elect, General Secretary. Three posts of Vice Presidents and four posts of Vice Presidents-at large one from each of the four Regions. Election results will be announced in the EMAME General Assembly.
