Otsuka awareness campaign against Hepatitis

Healthcare providers should insist on purchase

KARACHI: Healthcare providers should always insist for purchase of quality products in their institutions which is not a common practice in our healthcare facilities. It is the duty of the practicing doctor to convince the people who are in charge of purchase committees to buy quality products which will be beneficial for the patients. These views were expressed by Dr. Nusrat Anis, Consultant General, Laparoscopic Surgeon at Ziauddin University Hospital Karachi. She was performing the Otsuka Lucky draw in connection with Otsuka awareness campaign against Hepatitis held at Otsuka Head Office on July 29, 2013. Mr. Abid Hussain, Chief Executive, Otsuka Pakistan, Mr. Habib Navaid, Senior Director Marketing and other senior executives of the company were also present.

Continuing Dr. Nusrat said we always insist for quality IV drips in our hospitals but people who are at the helm of affairs do not care about it. Young doctors should make pressure group to pressurize the concerned authorities for purchase of quality products.
PM&DC and Ministry of Health besides Pakistan Nursing Council should be approached to make required changes in Nursing curriculum. Ethical practice and emphasis on prevention of the diseases are important to prevent hepatitis and other communicable diseases. GP’s especially those practicing in rural and peripheral areas should be educated to stop re-use of syringes which is a very common practice, she added. Dr. Nusrat also informed that there is tremendous increase of Hepatitis C patients in Korangi area of Karachi and people are not aware of its cause.
Dr. Nusrat further said that we are fighting against Hepatitis and other communicable diseases and Otsuka Pakistan is playing its role by providing prick free I.V preparations which must be saving lot of precious lives. She appreciated the Hepatitis awareness campaign initiated by Otsuka Pakistan which will play a vital role to educate the people as well as healthcare professionals to control these diseases.
Earlier Mr. Muhammad Arshad, of Otsuaka Pakistan, highlighted the aims and objectives of Otsuka awareness campaign against hepatitis. This continuing educational campaign, he stated, is being run to create awareness regarding hepatitis and to encourage ethical medical practices. Print and electronic media is being used to convey the message bedsides seminars and lectures are being organized in various hospitals. Dr. Ghazala Ilyas from Al-Mustafa Maternity Home, Karachi was the winner for the month of July 2013 lucky draw. Other fifteen winners will get consolation prizes.
