LAHORE: University of Health Sciences has added yet another feather in its cap under the leadership of Prof. Maj.Gen. (Retd) Mohammad Aslam when UHS and Shaikh Zayed Hospital Complex entered into an agreement to collaborate in research and academics. This agreement was signed by Prof. Farid Ahmad Khan Chairman and Dean of Shaikh Zayed Hospital Complex and Prof.Mohammad Aslam Vice Chancellor of University of Health Sciences on April 2, 2016.  Federal Finance Minister Mr. Ishaq Dar who is also chairman of the Board of Governors of UHS was also present on this occasion. He pointed out that this natural affiliation will help both the institutions and will be in their interest.

It may be mentioned here that Punjab Government has already affiliated the teaching units of SZMC including Sheikh Khlaifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College Lahore, Federal Postgraduate Medical Institute (FGPMI), and Allied institutions with University of Health Sciences for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Earlier these institutions were affiliated with Punjab University.

As per this agreement,UHS would accredit established programmes of affiliated teaching units of sheikh Zayed Medical Complex Lahore following due process for the award of certificates, diplomas and degree.  This agreement also envisages collaboration and cooperationin teaching and training including joint programme development, institutional exchanges by inviting faculty and staff to participate in teaching and research activities and continuing professional development.

Research figures prominently in the agenda of agreement under which both institutions have agreed to organize joint symposia, conferences, courses and meetings. It also envisages coordinated research in selected areas besides providing training of scientific and technical personnel for research and development. Speaking at the occasion Finance Minister Ishaq Dar hoped that medical research and educaiotn would further improve as a result of this agreement.
