killer
diseases in pediatrics-Dr. Muhammad Anwar

KARACHI. Hyperthermia and Hypoglycemia are the two major killer diseases in pediatrics and use of dextrose is must in these conditions. Readymade solutions are safe, because these are not mixed manually and it avoids human error. Otsuka has complete range of intravenous solutions which has helped us to manage our patients effectively. These views were expressed by Dr. Muhammad Anwar, Laproscopic Paediatric Surgeon and Associate Professor of Paediatric Surgery, National Institute of Child Health & JSMU Karachi. He was performing the Otsuka Lucky draw held at Otsuka Head Office on 29th March 2018.

Continuing Dr. Muhammad Anwar, said that nurses and paramedics in particular need to be reminded again and again about the safe practices regarding the use of Intravenous Infusions so that it becomes a routine practice. In the developed world, they use specially designed IV infusions bottles but in Pakistan pricking of IV bottles is one of the major causative factors for the spread of Hepatitis which has now become an epidemic. They are not sensitized and not trained properly specially in our public hospitals. If they are sensitized, it will be beneficial for the patients. Efforts should be made to make them realize that they are important member of the healthcare team hence they should play their role in health delivery system while efforts should also be made to solve their problems. He was of the view that it is the duty of the senior healthcare professionals to contribute in this regard and share their knowledge and experience with others so that the younger generation of doctors, nurses and paramedics are better prepared to effectively manage the patients which will go a long way in improving patient care. Dr. Muhammad Anwar commended the efforts of Otsuka Pakistan in creating awareness about Hepatitis through educational campaign for the healthcare professionals i.e. doctors, nursing staff and paramedics.

Earlier Mr. Arshad Khan, Marketing Manager of Otsuka Pakistan highlighted the activities of Otsuka Pakistan to create awareness about Hepatitis spread using electronic and print media among the public and healthcare professionals. Quality products can only be provided to patients if they are prescribed by brand name, he added. At Otsuka manufacturing plant thirty two steps are taken to complete process of IV preparations which need lot of resources, he added. Dr. Asad Sikandari Gaoshala Hyderabad was the lucky winner for the month of March 2018 draw.
