Salient features include CME/ CPD launch, conferences
on Medical Education and Reproductive Health

KARACHI: College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan has decided to celebrate Charter Day by holding two confines on Medical Education and Reproductive Health besides holding 48th Convocation and CME/CPD launch. This has been stated in a communication received from Prof. Rakshanda Rehman, Councilor CPSP who is also Dean, Medical Education. The celebrations will be held at CPSP Karachi Campus from May 19-21, 2014.
Initially CME/CPD activities will be for the Fellows, Faculty members, supervisors, examines and trainees of the CPSP and later it will be extended to other CME providers. According to the plan, activities eligible for award of credit will include the following:

• Live activities
• Curricular review and revision
• Supervision of residency training
• Journal-related CME activity
• Test-item writing activity if item is accepted by the CPSP
• Paper assessment and conduct of CPSP examinations

Number of credits: One credit for 2 hours of CME activity with a maximum of 4 credits per day.
As regards Maintenance of credits, in order to be in Good Academic Standing following categories will be required to maintain the minimum number of credits as shown below:

Facilitator:                        30 credits per year
Item writer:                        20 credits per year
Paper setter/ assessor:    20 credits per year
Examiner:                         30 credits per year

Those exceeding the minimum requirement of credits will be eligible for additional responsibilities. The 48th Convocation of CPSP will also be organized in the evening on May 19th 2014.
On Day-Two, a conference on medical education will be organized on May 20th. The theme chosen for the conference is “Developing Human Resources for comprehensive Healthcare” which will cover the entire spectrum of medical education. Conference on Reproductive Health will be held on Day-Three i.e. May 21st. Its theme is “Maternal and Neonatal Health, Trends, Issues, Priorities and Strategies”. This theme has been selected with a view to improve our Maternal and Neonatal Health outcomes.
Early Bird Registration till May 10th is Rs. 2,000/- and Rs. 1,000/- for Trainees while late and On-site registration will be Rs. 3,000/- and Rs. 2,000/- for Trainees. Registration Forms duly filled with Pay Order/Bank Draft of prescribed Fee drawn in the name of CPSP should be sent to CPSP Headquarters at Karachi or a Regional Center.
