Dr. Javaid Associate Prof. of Surgery at DUHS/CHK performing the
Otsuka Lucky Draw held on March 27, 2014 as a part of their
campaign creating awareness about Hepatitis and
other infectious diseases.

Such educational activities and awareness campaign, Dr. Javed opined, should be continued to have its sustainability and everlasting effects because otherwise, one tends to forget these important messages particularly the paramedics, nurses who are important members of the healthcare team and are in constant contact with the patients all the time.
Earlier Mr. Mohammad Arshad, Deputy Marketing Manager and Mr. Khalid Munir Business Unit Manager briefing about the salient features of this awareness campaign pointed out that despite the fact that there are over a dozen manufacturers producing IV solutions, preparations but it was only Otsuka which realizing its responsibilities started this campaign. Apart from utilizing the services of print and electronic media, the company has produced lot of information leaflets, booklets, and video films to educate the healthcare professionals about the dangers of pricking the IV bottles. Keeping in view its associated hazards, Otsuka has not only specially designed the bottle which has enough empty space to ensure adequate pressure leading to collapse of the bottle when it is being used so that there is no need to prick it besides coming up with special combination preparations so that one does not have to add other products. In addition Otsuka bottles have a specific place for inserting the nozzle which fixes in eliminating any chances of leakage. These are some of the quality control measures which Otsuka have taken to ensure safety.
Otsuka Pakistan has also prepared specially mounted boards for display at healthcare facilities educating the healthcare professionals how to protect themselves from Needle Stick Injuries (NSIs), who are at increased risk of NSIs, what type of needles can cause NSIs with a special focus on nurses, laboratory workers and House Keepers. Otsuka, it was further stated, also arranges screening camps for Hepatitis at meetings organized to celebrate the World Hepatitis Day.
Otsuka manufacturing plant at Hub Industrial Estate, it may be mentioned here, has once again become operational after being renovated and improving the facilities at huge investment to bring it at par with European Standards. It took over eight months and after inspection, clearance by the respective government agencies, the production has been started. The bumper prize in the lucky draw was won by Dr. Mohammad Iqbal from Jacobabad Sindh Province while another fifteen participants will get consolation prizes. The entire field force of Otsuka Pakistan remains busy in contacting the healthcare professionals to encourage them to participate in this lucky draw which also provides them an opportunity to keep a liaison with them and it also serves the purpose of conveying the message regarding safety, protection against the NSIs and refraining from un-necessary pricking of the IV bottles.
