 The Yoga Myth

While celebrating the yoga day, Indian Prime Minister NarendraModi made lofty claims that it is the best exercise and the panacea to all the problems affecting the human body. Likewise in our country there are people who lay similar claims about their own practices. If we analyze the reasons of good health statistically, indices and facts are contrary to such rhetoric. The subcontinent is home to over one and a half billion people but it is always at the bottom of the Olympic Games competitive ratings while smaller countries like Korea, Japan etc.,  walk away with tallies of medals.

Moreover there is the highest prevalence of both communicable diseases, highest toll of deaths in all age groups and a shorter lifespan in the Subcontinent. It is time we in the Subcontinent faced the reality, stopped indulging in a make believe world and adopted lifestyles that are based on modern, scientific methods in order to improve the quality of our lives.
