PAME-EMAME Training Course on
Medical Journal Publishing

Thanks a millions for those two files regarding the Training Course for Editors on Medical Journal Publishing organized at Islamabad and Karachi Congratulations again on all your personal hard work to make these events happen successfully. I know there are many challenges but the good side is that there also appears to be a lot of interest and motivation among editors to improve their skills and knowledge. Seeing the progress through events like these is the best thing.
Meanwhile, sometimes I think “western” medical editorial culture is going backwards! The experts continue to issue more and more new rules but the proportion of editors who actually live by the rules and take them seriously (even COPE rules, which are sometimes broken by editors with no negative consequences) seems to be declining – may be as a side effect of the non-stop increase in the number of journals. I have also enjoyed reading the Proceedings of APAME Congress 2012 held in Malaysia.
Congratulations again and best wishes for continued energy and success,

Karen Shashok
Spain.

I just wish to register my sincere thanks to Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid, Dr. Waqar and other organizers of this useful event. We value Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid’s contribution towards technically illuminating us all in medical editing and related issues very highly. In fact, it was a very delightful day, every moment of which we enjoyed while learning the tricks of the trade. Hope to listen from you again very soon.

May I suggest that we look at the proceedings in retrospect and analyze critically for the expected benefits to the participants and the actual gains and its bearing on the current practices of the journals in this region. I think it is the need of the day that we evolve a system for such analytical methodology for the future meetings as well. After all the time is precious.

I am sure we all learned some new aspects of medical writing. The best part was the consensus amongst local editors to hold such meetings regularly, this would strengthen the editors guild and improve the standard of medical journals.

It was a very useful workshop with a great opportunity for networking for all of us doing a very difficult job of Juggling time, budget, impatient contributors and reluctant reviewers which is indeed extremely challenging. All the suggestions including the one of making a small group on yahoo are do able. Dr. Waqar need to take a lead on this initiative.
